Allie Ritch Leaves Orbit with Alien Sex 104

by nulliparaora on February 19, 2013

Allie Ritch is here today with out of this world romance in Alien Sex 104.

Who is Allie Ritch

Bio:

Allie Ritch is a multi-published author of erotic sci-fi and paranormal romance. She has an active imagination and enjoys entertaining others through storytelling. Allie lives in her own little world in the Southeastern United States, where she spends time appreciating the ocean and sunshine.

Blurb:

Huv has always liked the ladies, but he’s getting to the age when he’s ready for more than one-night stands. After meeting Lexy, he finds it very easy to fall for the sexy alien in her female form, but that’s only half the equation. Lexy is Cedecian. Every month, her race changes genders. Huv suffers a sexual identity crisis as he struggles to accept that the woman he loves may also be the man he loves. For an Allurian who is used to being strictly straight, it’s an adjustment Huv isn’t sure he can make.

Expecting Glynn to pop the question, Deina is shocked when he instead asks her to have his baby…or at least try. As a Semhym, Glynn must find a woman with just the right chemistry to help him spill his seed before it’s too late. He thinks Deina may be the one, but he wants to be sure. In order to win her over, he’ll have to gamble for the highest stakes of all: sex, love, and the rest of their lives.

Excerpt from Alien Sex 104:

“So what you really want is to marry me?”

“Yes.” The word popped off his tongue before he could clarify it. “That is, I want to marry and start a family.”

Although Deina wore a smile, the expression didn’t give anything away. Glynn couldn’t tell if she was happy or amused, humoring him or seriously considering the offer. The uncertainty disturbed him, as did the realization that he was actually nervous. His palms were sweaty, and his pulse tripped at an uncomfortable rate. Of course, he was talking about something potentially life changing, so he supposed a bit of anxiety was in order.

“Are you asking me to marry you, Glynn?” Deina asked the question directly this time.

Once again, he decided to be honest. “I may, but I’d like to see if we’re sexually compatible before I commit. I want to be sure there’s a possibility of children.”

This time she threw back her head and laughed—a full, throaty sound he’d secretly grown to adore. She always put her whole heart into her joy, letting it out for all to hear. Her eyes twinkled when she looked at him.

“So what you really want is to get laid, huh? Why didn’t you just say so? I’ve been waiting for you to make your move for weeks now. Don’t get me wrong. I think it’s sweet how you’ve wanted to wait and take the time to get to know me first. You’ve always treated me like a lady, Glynn, despite the fact that you saw me having sex in front of a room full of people the first time we met. I’m flattered. I’m also likely to say yes if you invite me home tonight.”

Other men would have taken that for all the agreement they needed, but Glynn had too much respect for Deina to let her go into this without complete understanding. “You do realize you could get pregnant?”

“I’m on birth control.”

He shook his head. “It may fail. If I’m able to fully come with you, it’s very likely it will fail, although perhaps not the first time.”

Her amusement vanished beneath an expression of concern. “What do you mean if you’re able to come? Oh. Are you impotent?”

Glynn hated that word. “No, I’m a Semhym. Unlike with New Earthlings, there’s nothing easy about my reproductive system. The circumstances and chemistry have to be just right.”

He could tell she didn’t understand, but she shrugged. “So do you do this often? Warn every woman you want to sleep with that you might get her pregnant?”

Uneasy now, Glynn shifted in his seat. “Of course not. The risk is infinitesimal with most women.”

“But not with me?” Her tone was gentle.

Offering what he could of himself, Glynn gave her the truth. “You’re very different from other women. I’ve been intensely attracted to you since the moment I first saw you, and my desire has only grown over time. I think we could have something special.”

Although he’d never been good at romance, he hoped she could hear the sincerity and hope in his voice. Judging by the slight softening of her expression, he thought maybe she did.

With a title like Alien Sex 104, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.  When I read the blurb, I was intrigued.  Let’s start with Huv. Was it difficult exploring preconceived notions of gender with this character?

Strange as it may seem, Huv’s struggle is more with his own identity than with Lexy’s ability to change gender. Huv has only lived as a straight man, though a very adventurous one at that, so he has a sexual identity crisis when he realizes he’s attracted to Lexy even when Lexy is a man. His conflict goes deeper than sexual orientation issues, though. Huv is at a crossroads in his life, at loose ends as he tries to figure out exactly what he wants. His old life no longer fits him, so he’s ready for a change. Learning to love and be with Lexy is only one part of the overhaul he does on himself. He also grows closer to his cousins, starts a new job, and relocates to Trilanta.

Lexy was a joy to write since I could incorporate both feminine and masculine traits into her/his character. The real challenge was keeping the pronouns straight and maintaining a careful timeline of when Lexy was due to morph into each gender.

What inspired the Cedecian race?  As soon as I read about the monthly change, my mind likened it to menses. “Meet my wife. She’s my husband now, it’s her time of the month.”

LOL. I actually have a line in the book where a flustered Huv is trying to figure out Lexy’s cycle. Lexy (who has turned female) looks at him and says, “Honey, you’re looking at my monthly right now.”

A big inspiration for the Cedecian race was Ursula K. Le Guin’s 1960’s sci-fi novel, The Left Hand of Darkness. I loved her book, though she went in a whole different direction with the plot, genre, and even with the description of her gender-morphing characters. I read the book years ago, but the potential for a love story stuck with me. Advancements in sex-change operations were also a huge inspiration—the idea of making the body conform to the inner man or woman. Ultimately, I thought the Cedecians were a great twist on shape-shifters, if you think about it.

What is Huv’s ideal woman? Or does he just like women in general?

Before meeting Lexy, Huv would have said his ideal woman was any female with the requisite body parts looking for a good time. Once he meets Lexy, though, not only is Lexy the only woman for him; Lexy is the only one for him.

If I landed on Huv’s home world, where’s the first place he’d take me?

There isn’t as much diversity on Alluria, so Huv would definitely notice an Earthling there. If he’d met you prior to Lexy, I’d say he’d show you around town, maybe treat you to a little dinner and dancing, and then take you back to his place for some Allurian brandy and whatever else he could talk you into. Now that he’s committed to Lexy, though, I suspect he’d show you his uncle’s import business and introduce you to all his relatives. Watch out for those bawdy Allurians.

Let’s talk about Glynn. Does his need for procreation supersede the need for a relationship?

That’s exactly what Deina worries about. She’s really ticked off when Glynn asks to test their fertility together before he’ll commit to marrying her. Deina is a gambler, though, and she loves him enough to take a risk. Instead of turning him down flat, she plays a series of games with him with marriage as the prize. The more Glynn is around Deina, the more he realizes she is what he wants, though he still hopes he can have a family with her.

Deina seems to be quite promiscuous. Is she ready to settle down and have a family?

Deina is a bit of a hedonist, sexually and otherwise. She spent her twenties hitting the clubs, bars, raves, and other parties, and she definitely had a good time. Now that she’s in her thirties, though, that whole scene has grown stale. Been there, done that, and she’s ready for more out of life. Forget the men with all flash and no substance. She’s ready for a steady, reliable guy like Glynn. He makes her feel secure, while she hopes she can give him more fun. Glynn is so controlled she wants to shake him up and see what he’s like when he cuts loose.

Let’s say you introduced me to Glynn and he thought I was the one.  How would he greet me?  How would he go about trying to acclimate me to him?  Would he come right out and tell me, or try to get to know me?

Glynn comes across as stern and uptight at first, and he’s very strategic. If he felt an instant attraction to you that made him think you might be the one, he’d ask if you’d go out to dinner with him. He’d date you for a while, always taking you to nice places and treating you like a lady. You might even question how into you he was until the goodnight kiss. Two words: bottled lightning. Beneath his carefully controlled facade, Glynn is a passionate man. While he may be able to hide it other times, his kiss gives him away. You’d feel the buzz of lust humming beneath his skin, the heat of his desire in the play of his lips over yours. He’d get you so hot and bothered with those kisses you’d be ready to throw yourself at him. Then, over dinner one night, he’d look across the table at you and say, “I’d like to have a baby with you.” Yes, just like that—like the worst pickup line ever. At least, that’s what he does to Deina. It takes a special woman to love a man like that.

Jeebus! Three words for Glynn and his baby talk: Slow your roll!

The six of us are at dinner together.  Who’d be the proper host and explain the food and customs?  Who’d try to get me drunk?  Who’d try to get me to change clothes?  Who’d try to get me out of my clothes?  Who’d warn me to avoid a person at the table?  Who’d sneak a communication device into my pocket for private chats?

Lexy isn’t just a therapist by trade; it’s a calling for her (or him in his male stage). She likes to help people and make them feel better. I have no doubt Lexy would be the one playing host and making sure you felt comfortable. She’d explain the food and customs to you without being condescending and would listen with interest to what you had to say.

You might get drunk with Deina if you try to keep up with her. She has a lot of experience as a party girl, though she’s (mostly) ready to settle down. Deina also might talk you into changing into something fun and slinky.

Back in the day, Huv would have been the first to talk you out of your clothes, but he only has eyes for Lexy now. Like all Allurians, though, he still has a dirty sense of humor, as Lexy would warn you. Lexy has experience with Huv’s cousin Rix, who likes to gesticulate while he makes…um, suggestions for certain activities. Meanwhile, Glynn might make a few attempts at polite chitchat, but he mostly scowls at everyone except Deina.

After dinner, Lexy would be the one to offer a private chat in case you wanted to learn more about Trilanta or ever had a problem and needed someone to talk to. She’s thoughtful and caring that way.

I’d like to talk about you for a moment.  What drew you to the sci-fi and paranormal genres?

What’s not to like? Other worlds, all the body shapes and abilities you can dream of, shape-shifters and blood drinkers. The possibilities are endless in these genres.

I always loved ghost stories and other paranormal tales when I was a kid, and I have my father to thank for my love of sci-fi. He’s a huge science fiction fan, and he got me hooked from the time I was a little girl. My love of romance came later when I read Jane Eyre in high school. It was only a matter of time before I started putting my favorite genres together and voila! Now I write sci-fi and paranormal romance, and those are the books I enjoy reading too.

Is there anything else you’d like readers to know?

I love what I do. My ideas are often quirky, my style is definitely my own, and you can always count on the fact that I put a lot of passion into all my books. I write the stories I do because my muse tells me I have to, and “resistance is futile.” I only hope my readers have as much fun reading my books as I do creating them.

Thank you so much for being here and giving us an inside look at these interesting characters. Want to know where you can pick up a copy of Alien Sex 104?

I have to admit Lexy was one of my favorite characters to write, WildAboutBones. As for what’s next, I always have a WIP. I’ll continue with SFR and paranormal romance since that’s what I really love to write.
